In 2010, in order to provide security and progress visibility over a large industrial construction site, we were contracted to implement and deploy a Web Surveillance system. Existing solutions at the time were either too expensive, or too simple.
Our customer wanted to have high quality video over a large area, so VGA (640х480) cameras common at the time just wouldn’t cut it
5MP (2592х1944) IP cameras have only just made its appearance on the market, so they didn’t have any good software to work with (only a buggy ActiveX control was available)
Since it was a construction site with a lot of heavy machinery moving around, we couldn’t rely on laying our optics fiber to connect to the cameras. So, we had to build a wireless solution
Very tight timeframe (3 months to complete from scratch)
To address the challenges we’ve developed our own video server which received h.264 video streams from cameras and converted it into h.263 to allow smooth real-time web streaming.
Key system features
Indexed video storage
Flash client with role model (admin and user)
Up to 16 5MP cameras support
The system has been deployed to the construction site and was used until the construction was finished.
